The Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica was severely injured in an accident rally Sunday in Italy. The pilot's life is not endangered, but surgeons were forced to amputate his left forearm.

The Polish driver was driving a Skoda Fabia in the Rally Ronde di Andora lorsque'il lost control and rammed at high speed, the wall of a church, the driver side. If his co-pilot escaped without injury, Kubica was less fortunate.

The car had to be cut in order to remove the pilot from 26 years of his awkward position and transported by helicopter to hospital in Pietra Ligure.

Although we are still awaiting an official health check, several media reveal details about the condition of the Renault driver.

One other sulfur between a fracture of his left femur - the strongest bone in the leg - and his left hand was literally crushed to his arrival at the hospital. Polsat reported that doctors would have had to resort to amputation of the forearm of the driver.

The pilot was conscious upon arrival at the hospital. Renault has confirmed that his life was not in danger. However, it suffers from internal bleeding also. An official report should be issued shortly.

Kubica was also miraculously unscathed from a violent accident in Montreal in 2007 before taking it on the same track in 2008. We must believe that he was less lucky this time.
