Two specific brands will be sold in Canada in the network Mercury Monarch (from 1946 to 1961) and Meteor (from 1946-1961 then 1964-1981). The history and rationale of these two brands is extremely complex. Basically, Monarch began as Mercury with components such as Ford and Meteor Ford Mercury components. In the early 60s, the coexistence of four brands becomes really difficult for Ford of Canada that kills Monarch and Meteor. Meteor returned in 1964 as the Mercury less luxurious (sometimes with Ford components). 1976 will be the last year for Meteor as a separate brand but the name will be set up in 1981.
