Peugeot Rcz Coupe : Frankfurt Motor Show

Peugeot will also be displaying the fruits of its diesel hybrid research with the world premiere of two concept cars: the 3008 HYbrid4 (now CO2 of 99g/km) which preludes the production model (launch due in the spring of 2011) and an experimental HYbrid4 version of the RCZ, which has CO2 emissions of 95g/km).

The RCZ, which, in concept form, has been causing a stir at shows since its debut at Frankfurt two years ago, marks a departure for Peugeot in that it is stand-alone vehicle in the range and one aimed at driving enthusiasts. To emphasise this role, it is the first Peugeot passenger car not to use the company's numbering system with one or two zeros in the middle. It will be built by Magna Steyr in Austria in a production centre specialisin exclusive, low-volume vehicles.

Three engines will be available at launch, two petrol and one diesel, all turbocharged.

The range-topping unit is a new 1.6 developing 200bhp and 188lb ft of torque (203lb ft with overboost), driving the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Peugeot hasn't released maximum speed figures, but claims 0-62mph in 7.6sec and 50-75mph in fifth gear in 6.5sec. Its EU Combined fuel consumption is 39.8mpg, with CO2 emissions of 165g/km.

The 1,598cc, four-cylinder engine has a twin-scroll turbocharger for improved response at low revs, direct petrol injection and variable valve lift coupled with variable valve timing on the intake and exhaust camshafts
