Ford officially end Mercury
As rumors signaled in recent days, Ford has decided to terminate the operations of the Mercury brand. A subsidiary of the giant blue oval, designed to provide models for the American middle class after the 1929 crisis, can be considered extinct. After 71 years of activity, it lost its reason to exist with the development of Ford brand vehicles and the need for expansion of Lincoln, which grow within the range.
Until recently, Mercury served as an economic bridge between Ford and luxury Lincoln. However, advances these two took their market potential, becoming less significant within the conglomerate. In this decade its sales fell more than 70%, a significant drop for a little luxury division.
According to an executive of Ford, Mercury was just still on the scene since 1990 to maintain the productive capacity of the factories of the company away from idleness. Witness the range of the brand, made by the old Grand Marquis, the Mariner and Mountaineer SUVs forgotten and AC Milan, brother of the Ford Fusion.
